My Story
The most dreaded word - Cancer. Ten years ago, my Mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The first person in our family to have been diagnosed. It was the most difficult, upsetting and painful time for her, and for us as her support, we felt helpless. To see her go through the treatments was heartbreaking- but she got through it and she beat it! Fast forward to last year, after being clear for those years, she was told she had nose and throat cancer. A big set back for her as she had only been fully discharged in the January for her previous cancer. However, she again fought through the treatments and I’m not going to lie, those questions of will it work and will she be ok were running through my head. That was June last year. Her treatments have finished and they worked! Thanks to God! She is now under monthly review with the ENT team. Rewind back to April this year, following a heart attack, scans showed my Dad also having a large mass in his stomach. Turns out to be a GIST - a rare form of stomach cancer! We are now waiting for his treatment plan and next steps in order to remove this tumour. I just pray that he too will be ok! My friends and I have decided to do this marathon in order to raise more money for Cancer Research, for people like my parents who have had or have cancer. Without the funding, they cannot continue to do their work in finding a cure to beat every type of Cancer. I have had little to no training, class myself as unfit but I am determined to do this. To all of you that will donate, whether I complete this or not, please remember, your money is going to a very good cause! Thank you all! Joy xxx
