My Story
Hello everyone! Last time I did a walk for Cancer Research, I trekked just over 100 miles of the Jurassic Coast with my partner, Lauren, and foolishly only put on my walking boots twice before starting. Turns out they were a size too small, I lost 4 toenails, spent most of the time crying, did 20 miles bare foot and Lauren even carried me for some of it. But hey, we raised £5.5k for a Cancer Research! So I’ve decided to do something similar again… although this time I might just pop my walking shoes on before the event. I will be doing a half Marathon across London through the night with my work team at Live Union (so let’s hope it’s less of a drama and I’m still employed at the end of it). I will be raising money towards research into brain tumours. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of under 40s. So, it’s quite shocking that over £700m is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, yet less than 3% is spent on brain tumours. I will be trekking in memory of my fabulous mum, Pippa Stone, who died of a terminal brain tumour in 2020. She was a force to be reckoned with and would think I was bonkers for signing up to do a walk again after the fuss last time. I will also be trekking for Glynn Soley, who died due to a terminal brain tumour so I unfortunately never got to meet him but he produced one of my favourite people (my partner, Lauren) so gets instant Legend-Status. Any money raised by this walk gives me hope that other families may experience a happier endings than both of ours. I appreciate times are hard but if anyone can donate anything at all, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million! Josie x
