Walking from Despard Road, Coventry to the top of Mount Snowdon in 61 hours to be at the peak for mums birthday

In memory of

Michelle Karen Palmer 05/08/1961-10/05/2022. A beloved Mum, Nanny, Daughter, Sister and Dear Friend

My Story

As many already know, our amazing Mum/Michelle sadly passed away on Tuesday 10th May. Mum had only been diagnosed with Stage 4 gall bladder and liver cancer 2 weeks 6 days prior to losing her battle and ultimately her life. Mum started to have a pain in her side at the end of March this year which was initially diagnosed as gall stones, she had seen gp’s and doctors regarding this issue and was due to have her gall bladder removed 19th May. When going for a scan in preparation for the operation, doctors noticed some shadowing on the gallbladder and liver which turned out to be cancer. After further tests and biopsies mum was told she had stage 4 gallbladder and liver cancer that had already spread further and it was inoperable and incurable. Doctors, mum and ourselves were hopeful on treating and prolonging mums life, however with chemo dates agreed and a plan in place the cancer seemed to take hold of our small little mum and she started to deteriorate rapidly. Mum was admitted to hospital on May 5th due to her struggling to eat and take on fluids. Doctors were still hopeful and offered end of life care for 4 weeks or an attempt of an operation to help mum on the Sunday which may help to get her to chemo and prolong life. This decision was quickly snatched away from us when on the Monday we received a call to come to the hospital straight away. On arriving at the hospital the doctors told us that mum had only hours to a day to live. Mum battled right to the end like the little fighter she always was and passed away surrounded by all the family, loved ones, amazing friends and colleagues. This is the moment that would change our lives forever, this amazing woman has left a hole in our hearts that will never be filled and the world is a sadder place for her not being here with us. We are completely heartbroken and will miss and love mum forever. Mum would not want us to mope around too much though so we’ve decided to get something done in her honour for charity. Cancer research was always a big thing for mum having lost her father to the same illness that she lost her life to, so what better charity than cancer research under these horrible circumstances. So me(Josh), Ben and Tom with friends and family in tow have decided to take on a challenge and raise as much money for cancer research as we can with all your help. The challenge is based around our mum which I will explain now. We will be walking from mums house in Despard Road, Coventry to the top of Mount Snowdon in a 61 hour limit. We have chosen Snowdon mums maiden name before she became a Palmer was Snowden, the 61 hour limit because our mum would have been 61 this August. We will be leaving for this challenge on 3rd August 2022 to be at the peak of Snowdon on Mums 61st birthday 5th August. We know this won’t be easy at all but when has cancer ever been easy and look at all the people who have fought or are fighting that. So with your help we hope to achieve the set target or more if we can to donate to help all future cancer patients and hopefully help as many as possible beat this disease. Mum worked in the NHS for 42 years and loved to help and care for patients, so if we can give just a fraction of what she did back then I’m sure she would be proud of us. Thank you for reading and if you haven’t already then please donate whatever you can. Thanks, Josh, Ben and Tom
