My Story
Last year we managed to find time to complete a 3 day cycle from Stonehenge through the New Forest to Swanage, as well as a 2 day cycle from Cambridge to London and back. Having decided that our legs could take us a little further, this year Jerome and I plan to undertake (foolishly or not) a gruelling 2200mile cycle from Cambridge to Sicily. We now extend the gift of the two of us in lycra to the kind people of Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and, of course, Italy. If removing that sight from UK roads for a month isn’t enough to get you into a charitable mood, we are also raising money for the brilliant Charity Cancer Research UK, with a focus on Men’s cancers. We feel that it is about time we did something for a great cause, and having both had family members affected by cancer, who better than Cancer Research UK? Completing this ride will require a great deal of communication between the two of us, and inevitably a great amount of that discussion will be focused on the aches and pains in our bodies. As always it is important to know the normal function of your body and also to be able to discuss with others when changes occur. Within the UK, prostate, lung and bowel cancer are the three most common forms found in men, prostate cancer in particular will affect 1 in 8 men at some point in their lives. As with all cancers early detection (helped by communication) increases the chances of survival. For more information please make the most of Cancer Research UK’s website: https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/ Any donations, no matter how large or small, are appreciated. Cancer Research UK have been nothing but supportive of us over the course of our planning. Thank you.
