Johana's Veg Pledge

Thank you for visiting my Cancer Research UK Veg Pledge page. This November, I will be going vegetarian for Cancer Research UK. The money I raise will help fund life-saving research to help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. I will be taking part in this challenge in memory of my dad, who died from cancer two years ago. I always thought for a strange reason that this would never happen in my family, not to the people I love the most at least. Even though my grand mother died from cancer when I was a little girl, but at that time I couldn’t really understand much of what was going on. As I got older I realised that it was more frequent to hear about people suffering from cancer. Neighbours, friends of friends, people that at some point in live I knew. I only prayed so that it wouldn’t happen to us. Unfortunately about 7 years ago my aunt got diagnosed with breast cancer, the great news was, that she was going to be fine after the treatment, thankfully she’s very healthy and living to the fullest. Three years ago it hit us again, this time it was my dad. He was diagnosed with a lymphoma, unfortunately 4 months later he passed away. This has been one of the hardest things in my life, losing my father, my hero in so many ways. There is not one day that goes by without having him in my mind and yearn his absence. When I saw this challenge I thought it was the perfect way to raise money to help with research, we never know if tomorrow it can be any of us. Also it is a great way to honour him, those that are not with us today and those that are fighting everyday to beat it. Thank all for your support! El dinero que recolecte ayudará a financiar la investigación para salvar vidas, nadie estamos exentos de padecer esta enfermedad y cualquier ayuda que podamos aportar sera de gran ayuda. Participaré en este challenge en memoria de mi padre, quien murió de cáncer hace dos años. Por alguna razón que ahora mismo no entiendo, siempre pensé que mi familia y yo éramos inmunes a esta enfermedad, sin embargo desde muy niña ha estado muy presente, mi primera vivencia fue con la muerte de mi abuela (quizás esto fue lo que activó ese pensamiento de que no podría pasarnos mas). A medida que fui creciendo, me di cuenta de que era más frecuente escuchar sobre personas que padecían cáncer. Vecinos, amigos, amigos de amigos, personas que en algún momento de la vida conocí. Así se convirtió en la enfermedad mas común a mi alrededor. Desafortunadamente, hace unos 7 años mi tía fue diagnosticada con cáncer de mama, la buena noticia fue que iba a estar bien después del tratamiento, afortunadamente ahora es una mujer sana y disfruta de su vida. Hace tres años nos golpeó de nuevo, esta vez fue mi padre, fue diagnosticado con un linfoma, desafortunadamente 4 meses después falleció. Esto ha sido una de las cosas más difíciles de mi vida, perder a mi padre, mi héroe de mil y muchas maneras. No hay un día que pase sin tenerlo en mi mente y anhelar su presencia. Cuando vi este challenge, pensé que era la manera perfecta de recaudar fondos para ayudar con la investigación, nunca sabemos si mañana podemos ser cualquiera de nosotros. También es una excelente manera de honrarlo, además de honrar a los que no están con nosotros hoy y a los que luchan todos los días para vencerlo. Gracias de antemano a todos.
