Running the London Marathon for Daniel

My Story

On the 26th of April 2026 I will be taking on the London Marathon for Cancer Research UK and running in memory of my brother Daniel. I'm aiming to raise as much money as I can for CRUK to help fund further research into finding new treatments and therapies for those who are diagnosed with cancer. Please give generously, all donations are massively appreciated. In November 2022 Daniel was diagnosed with metastatic bowel cancer at the age of just 24 whilst working as a junior Doctor in Birmingham. The treatment that he received over the next few years had an amazing effect and allowed him to live a relatively normal life; he was able to move in with his girlfriend Abbie, adopt a dog and even continue to play tennis at his typically high standard. He was always grateful to the staff at the Cancer Centre, the Oncology Treatment Suite, the Liver team and the Colorectal Cancer Services team at the Q.E. Hospital in Birmingham where he received his treatment. However, not all cancer's are curable and in May 2025 he stopped receiving treatment. He died on the 11th of September 2025 at Birmingham Hospice, surrounded by his family and closest friends. As a Doctor himself, Daniel knew the importance of research in increasing the treatment options for people with cancer. He also recognised that the life changing treatment he received was only possible due to previous generations of research made possible by donations to charities like CRUK. It was for this reason that Daniel chose Cancer Research UK as the focus for all of his fundraising efforts, a choice that embodies the selfless and thoughtful man that Daniel was. Daniel was an amazing person and an inspiration to everyone around him. The resilience and strength with which he faced the last years of his life inspired me to sign up for the London Marathon and in completing the 26 mile route I hope to make him proud and raise as much money as I can for this fantastic charity.
