I have been very fortunate in that I have not directly experienced the effects of cancer, but many of my close friends and family have suffered losses and watched loved ones battle this awful disease. I want to show my support and raise money for this important cause. For those of you who know me, I don’t like running. So why are you doing this run in the mud I hear you say?! Well my story is that two years ago I became a mum to the most gorgeous little boy, who I cannot remember life before, and cannot imagine life without. Although I have found that being a mum is a lot harder than it looks! So, at the end of 2016 I decided I needed to do something for myself. Having been diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my pregnancy I was aware that my body had an issue with sugar and my weight was creeping up (too much sneaky flapjack to see me though the long days after the sleepless nights!) Since January I have been on the Michael Moseley blood sugar diet and have been working towards the ‘Couch to 5k’. I have had several blips in the diet, but to date I’ve lost nearly 2 stone and I can now run 3k (23 minutes) without stopping! Something I never thought I’d say when just 30 seconds was a struggle. I still don’t enjoy running as it doesn’t come naturally to me but I do enjoy the sense of achievement once I hit another milestone. I have decided to use my determination and new running skills to take part in this event and raise money for cancer research. So I would be very grateful if you could sponsor me, with as little or as much has you can afford. With just 3 weeks to get from 3k to 5k (and beat my sister), I am going to need all the motivation I can get! Thank you ?
