My Story
Thank you for visiting my Cancer Research UK Cycle 300 page. I will be cycling 300 miles in March 2021 for Cancer Research UK. I will be pedalling harder than ever because I want to raise money for life-saving research and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. With Covid-19 now in our lives, grabbing the headlines, I feel it’s more important than ever to not forget the work and efforts made to fight cancer. The original big ‘C’. Hi, I’m Jim, I have psoriatic arthritis, which twists and fuses my bones. My upper back and neck are locked, arthritic spondylitis, which makes it very difficult to ride a bicycle. I've had a heart attack and a mild stroke in the past. I’ve adapted my Sportstech ESX500 exercise bike, which I will do most of my challenge on. I have recently bought a mountain bike, which will hopefully be modified before the end of my challenge, to allow me to complete circuits of the Loch Leven Heritage Trail. The Sportstech ESX500 exercise bike will be used with the MyHomeFit android app, which can control the resistance level of the exercise bike. I will complete 3 or 4 sessions, five days per week, at resistance levels of 3 to 6. The MyHomeFit app allows the plotting of routes on Google maps, showing on screen the streetview of your current position. The resistance level is automatically adjusted with changes in gradient. I’m really looking forward to starting my challenge and I hope you will follow my progress. Please donate, if you can. Thank you!
