Jessica's Race for Life

Hi everyone, As most people know, I don’t run anywhere if I can help it! However, this July I've decided to dust off my trainers and brave a Race for Life Pretty Muddy 5k! Cancer is a heartbreaking illness that affects everyone in their lives at some point, in one form or another. Cancer does not discriminate; it affects both the person diagnosed whilst also having a wider effect on family and friends. Cancer not only has an impact on someone’s life at the time of initial diagnosis or during treatment, but holds a weight in your heart for the rest of your life. This year, I will be running in memory of my Mum and Grandad. Growing up, me and my sisters spent most of our early years watching my Mum bravely fighting her own personal battle with cancer, sadly losing this fight when I was 9 years old. She was a mother, daughter, family member and friend to so many, and an amazing woman with a big heart. A couple of years later, my family all rallied round and supported my Grandad through his own cancer battle, unfortunately losing his fight also. He was a wonderfully kind person to everyone he met, who supported me through so much in my early years and I’ll be forever grateful to him. I have chosen to run Race for Life with my best friend Jenny this year, not only to raise awareness for the ongoing fight but also to raise money in aid of finding a cure for cancer. I’ve set myself a fair old goal to try and smash but every little helps!
