My Story
Cancer is happening right now and is more then likely affecting someone that you know or is part of your life. This is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 10k to raise money, awareness and to save lives. The horrible ‘C’ word! Such a short 6 letter word but a word that has such a major impact on the lives of individuals and their families and friends. My family has been closely affected by various cancers and I have seen the struggle first hand that people suffering with cancer go through and the hard work that our NHS staff go through helping them fight a disease that tries its hardest to overpower bodies. I lost my auntie to breast cancer in 2010. My 7 year old cousin in 2013 to brain cancer and most recently my dad was diagnosed with non- Hodgkin’s lymphoma (cancer of the blood) and luckily he’s still here to tell the tale of how he is a survivor and a year in remission! If it wasn’t for people taking part in these fundraising events across the country then lives would be lost, special treatments couldn’t be funded, research couldn’t be funded and more families would be left to deal with the devastating affects that cancer can have on families. Cancer does not care your age, sex, life style, occupation or race. It can hit any one at any time. But together we can help raise awareness of rare cancers, low funded cancers and help fund research that could possibly save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work. So please help me raise some money for a cause very close to my heart.
