I'm walking at Shine Night Walk in the fight to beat Childhood Cancer. #BeBoldBeGold #TeamSirius #SiriusAboutFindingACureForCancer
I have decided to take part in the Shine Walk Full Marathon on Saturday 21st September 2019. Like most people in the UK, Cancer has had a direct effect on someone in my life. My Mum has bravely battled and beaten cancer twice in her life and I couldn't be more grateful to all the research and treatment that has made that possible. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Each year Cancer Research UK’s scientists get closer to beating cancer, and they’ve helped double survival rates in the last 40 years. But we can’t stop there. Only with our continued support can they turn this research into breakthroughs that save millions of lives. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work. I have decided to raise money for the Gold 'Childhood Cancer' ribbon. As a Primary School Teacher, I see young children learning and developing every single day. These children are making friends, playing in the playground, problem solving, developing an understanding of their world and enjoying their childhood years. It breaks my heart to think that every year, 1600 children and 2200 teens or young adults are diagnosed with some form of Childhood Cancer. These cancers can be quite different from cancers affecting adults. They say that 'your school years are the best years of your life', and these children have had some or all of those years ripped away from them. I want to raise money and awareness of Childhood Cancers in order to help with early diagnosis, better treatments and better care for both the children and the families going through these difficult and frightening times. I would be immensely grateful for any donation towards this incredibly worthy cause! I am walking in a team alongside my Dad, Lee, and my Boyfriend, Lewis. Lee is walking to raise awareness of Bowel Cancer and Lewis is walking to raise awareness of Breast Cancer. Please feel free to read their stories on our Team page: Team Sirius. Sirius is the name of a star, which we thought was appropriate as we will be walking overnight! And we also chose it because we are 'SIRIUS' about finding a cure for cancer! Thank you for reading my story. Let the training begin! #BeBoldBeGold #TeamSirius #SiriusAboutFindingACureForCancer
CAUSE
Children & Young People
Every day 12 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK. The good news is that improvements in treatments mean more children and young people are surviving cancer than ever before. But we still need to do more. With your help we will find new, better and kinder treatments for children and young people diagnosed with cancer. Donate now and help beat children’s cancers sooner.
