I'm doing the 5k race for life in support of my mum and dad and to celebrate my nan winning the fight 5 years ago against breast cancer. My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, no body ever expects to find it and so the shock was unexplainable, she has just come to the end of all her treatments and amazingly is also going to do the race for life with us even though she is still feeling side effects from her treatments. My mum and dad come as a package and so when my dad was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus at the beginning of this year it was something we couldn't have ever imagined and it had proven that they have to go through everything together. My dad has started on his journey to defeat it like the hero I have always known him to be. I love my mum and dad to pieces and I'm so proud of them, seeing them fight through it remaining so positive when the treatments have made them feel so poorly.
Im training at the minute, Im not a runner, I've never been good at it but seeing my beautiful mum and dad going through diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy makes running look like a walk in the park compared to them battling with this evil and degrading disease. There is a team of us doing the run for life so please help us to reach our goal and to help beat cancer sooner. There are so many people that cancer effects it needs to be put in its place for good.
Supporting the fighters, admiring the survivors, honouring the taken and never ever giving up hope.
