Cancer Research helped my wife and my family so much, I want to raise some money to help them do even more
My inspiration for entering the Great North Run for Cancer Research UK is my wife, Emma. Emma was unfortunately diagnosed with an aggressive Breast Cancer in 2016 at the age of 36. We have 2 young children (5 and 3 at the time) and we were devastated and scared by this news. Everyone from the NHS, the McMillian breast care nurses, the surgeons and the chemotherapy teams were superb in their professionalism and support in taking us through the treatment and recovery process. It's clear from talking to all these people that the research and development done by Cancer Research UK is the reason Emma is now cancer free and still here to be an amazing wife and mother. Emma was hoping to do this run herself, however she's recently been diagnosed with the BRCA1 gene mutation and will need some further risk reducing surgery. Although this is sad news it once again demonstrates the fabulous, life saving, work Cancer Research are doing. So I've decided to take on the run myself, a little(?) overweight and with no experience it's going to be a big challenge! I hope you can sponsor me a little to raise some money for this excellent organisation and help more people like Emma to fight and beat cancer.
