Jen and Meg’s Race for Life
Nottingham Pretty Muddy 5k 2022

Most people go into quite a lot of detail when writing their reasons for wanting to raise money for a particular charity or take part in an event like this one. They’ll include personal details, medical history and even photos to support their story. But this isn’t our story to tell. What I can say is that cancer is currently having a huge impact on our family. We have experienced what feels like every emotion while trying to navigate our way through hospital visits, chemo appointments and watch someone that we love suffer unfairly. While trying to be brave, strong and optimistic, we’re simultaneously just trying to get through the day and prepare ourselves for the next one as best we can. As a family, we’re making it a priority to be there for each other, but also dealing with life changing news privately and in our own way. There has been sleepless nights, days in which we can’t function, but still tried to be the best mum, dad, sister, daughter and grand-daughter that we can be, because we know we all need to stick together. My sister and I are feeling more than a bit helpless, but we want to play our part in supporting people living with cancer because we know how tough it is. Despite the worrying, frustration, and feelings of overwhelm, it’s important to us that we don’t just sit back and watch other people do their bit when we can join them. Unfortunately, running 5km in mud won’t change the world, but it will hopefully help someone with cancer, at some point, in some way who really needs it. Jen and Meg xx
