My Story
I am taking part in Race for Life this year as part of 'Team Helga'. Helga is a very dear friend and an amazing woman who is currently going through Chemo for Breast Cancer. I fought my own battle with Stage 2 Breast Cancer in 2012-2013. There are 3 people in our team that have battled this dreadful disease but we are the lucky ones as we are still here to tell the story. We are running in memory of Pauline Cullum. Pauline lost her battle to Cancer aged 39yrs on the very day (May 14th) 5 yrs ago. Pauline is the late wife of my partner Paul and was mum to my step son Henry. Henry was 4yrs when his mummy died and 5 yrs on is still trying to cope with his loss. He was heartbroken just last week as he had to admit to his dad that he cannot remember his 'Mumma'. This was Pauline's biggest heartache. Despite all her pain and suffering, she knew that Henry would not remember his mum. I lost my own dad to Cancer when I was nearly 4yrs and then lost my step dad to Cancer at the age of 10yrs. My cousin also lost their dear little 5yr old son just last year. This just should not keep happening. We have to do what we can to try and stop this atrocious disease. So many of us are losing loved ones or are fighting the battle ourselves. Please donate all you can to help fund research into beating Cancer. Twice as many people survive Cancer now than they did 40 yrs ago. Children surviving Cancer has gone from 1/4 to 3/4's in the last 50yrs. This has all been because of fundraising events and our generosity. Please give all you can so one day we can 'Beat Cancer'
