My Story

Over the last 3 years, my life’s been full of ups and downs; maybe more downs that ups but thanks to charities such as Cancer Research it was made a little easier. Unfortunately in April 2015 I was diagnosed with a rare form of uterine cancer and had to undergo vigorous testing and then chemotherapy weekly. I didn’t have to lose my hair because of the treatment plan I was on and thought GREAT! I can do this (my hairs my comfort).. I had treatment for just over 4 months and it appeared to do the trick! I started to resume normality in my life, I went back to work and things starting looking up! And then wham.. 8 months later it returned! Now the second time round was a little more serious as I was classed as high risk and had to have 16hours of chemotherapy intravenously each week; absolutely painstaking! Words can’t describe how it makes you feel, honestly! This time round I did loose my hair and quite rapidly too, nothing quite prepares you for it if I’m completely honest.. I was extremely poorly, and was often kept in hospital because I kept becoming neutropenic and heavy relied on the hospital to not only control my temperature and blood pressure but my sickness etc too! This went on for another 4 months; week in week out, daily blood tests and collapsing veins isn’t ideal but as always you just go with it and do what you’ve got to do.. July 6th 2017, my last day of treatment came; although I was dreading it, I kinda had a feeling of relief too! Now, almost a year on (shy of 5 days) I’m starting to become the person I was previously except stronger and more determined hence taking on this challenge, which is a challenge seeing as I’ve never run 5k in my life let alone with the obstacles! So if you guys and people you potentially know would like to donate, it would mean an awful lot to not only me but all of the other cancer patients out there both alive and unfortunately taken too soon! Thank you so very much! Jemma ❤️ Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life Pretty Muddy to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
