My Story
I have possibly rather foolishly signed up to cycle 300 miles this September! I have chosen to do this because it is very personal to me and because I still can. My dad died of cancer aged 38. I am now older than this, which seems impossible. He was a very young man, and left my Mum to raise 3 children, I was the eldest at 16 years old. It very unnaturally changed everything. I'm not very good with words. But another reason for attempting this challenge is several of us lost a friend, also far too young from cancer. Claire died far too young. She was only a few years older than me. I remember speaking to Claire about my Dad dying and how I had not really coped sometimes. When Claire died all I could think of were her 3 children and how I knew what this felt like. So every mile I will be cycling I will be thinking of Claire and my Dad and pushing myself in order to help others, hopefully i also enjoy the cycling along the way! The first few days have been emotional and difficult to fit in around work, but I can do it as a celebration of life and to help others if only a little. Thank you for visiting my Cancer Research UK Cycle 300 page. This September, before the end of the month, I will complete 300 miles on my bike for Cancer Research UK. I will be pedalling harder than ever because I want to raise money for life-saving research and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Every penny makes a huge difference to vital cancer research so please show your support with a donation to my page. Plus I may need some encouragement along the way please.
