So this year my Dad and I wanted to challenge ourselves and start getting fitter and healthier. We both like walking so I made the suggestion of a proper hike or organised walk. Then we thought let's do a sponsored walk. Torture our feet and legs for a few months training. And this is how we ended up here doing the Shine the Night Walk for Cancer Research. Because we don't just want to walk, we want to do it at night when tired and grouchy. Why not? For the why - I've been lucky enough to have an amazing Godmother. My Auntie Marian is everything you could wish for, a great listener, good fun, loving and caring. For all intents and purposes our second mum. I know there's been more than once we've gone to her before our own Mum, who can soften the blow better when you've done something wrong than your own Mum's best friend? She's been a foundation for me growing up. My Auntie Marian is currently fighting myeloma for a second time. Myeloma is not a cancer many people know but like all the other forms it needs time and money for the right research to be done to find a cure. While my dad and I don't expect to raise much (though our bleeding feet will say otherwise) we hope to raise something that we can contribute to the fight. Not just for myeloma but for all Cancer and all families experiencing it.
