My Story

My lovely sister Carol was first diagnosed with Melonoma about 8 years ago. She underwent an operation and the melanoma was successfully removed. We all thought that was sorted, a health scare with a happy ending. However In August last year Carol admitted she hadn't been feeling too well but did not make a fuss because she was caring for her husband Michael who had recently undergone an operation as part of his own cancer treatment. Michael sadly passed away on 25 October 2018 as he finally lost his own battle against Cancer. All attention turned to Carol. We soon discovered that Carol's melanoma had returned in a very aggressive form. Undergoing treatment, she remained positive despite losing her husband and was looking forward to spending time with her family including a new great grandson and another on the way. Tragically that wasn't to be and Carol died just 7 weeks after Michael, on Wednesday 12th December. Her Christian faith shone through to the end and Carol's last lucid days were joyfully spent with our huge family with lots of love and laughter. I felt very privileged to sit with Carol as she passed peacefully, together with her daughters Dani and Debbie. If you read this story don't be disheartened. Cancer killed my beautiful sister and her dear husband, as it did my father many years ago. However it is treatable and curable especially if detected early. So please please don't be embarrassed to get tested (I have a delightful camera experience every five years) keep an eye on your moles and find little ways to improve your health and fitness. Life is amazing, let's not take it for granted. Thank you for reading this. Thank you even more for tipping out your pockets. Every little helps. I'm 5k fit, I'm not 5k fast but I'm doing it. For Carol & Michael, for dad, for me and for you. Janis xxx
