Mark & Jamie’s Cycle Kenya - Riding the Rift Valley

My Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. On 1st October, Mark and I are heading to Kenya to take on a massive challenge: a grueling 6-day, 500km bike ride from the foothills of Mount Kenya, straight through the Great Rift Valley, all the way to Lake Victoria. This isn't something we're doing simply because we're experienced cyclists – far from it! We're taking on the challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK, a charity that means a huge amount to both of us. We have fully self-funded the entire trip ourselves, which means absolutely zero donation money is going toward our flights, accommodation, or flights. 100% of everything you give goes straight to Cancer Research UK. Cancer has affected both of our families. This year marks 20 years since Jamie’s mam, Maureen, died from ovarian cancer at the age of just 61. Mark’s dad, Milburn, sadly died from a brain tumour in 2007. We've both seen first-hand the impact cancer can have – not just on the person diagnosed, but on their family, friends and everyone around them. So we're going to put ourselves through six days of cycling across Kenya, tackling the Rift Valley and whatever else the route throws at us, and hopefully turn all the training, sweat, sore legs and inevitable suffering into something positive!
