Riding 1,000 miles from Land's End to John o' Groats on the longest day of the year, on an incredibly cheap motorbike. No motorways, no sleep, no warranty...
My Story
On June 21st I'll be riding with around 37 other motorcycles from Land's End to John o' Groats with the aim of completing the journey in 24 hours on very, very budget motorcycles. We set off at 4am, and with a set route, no motorways, and 5 mandatory stops along the way to sign in at (including a ferry crossing) there's little time for anything other than fuel stops and some light food to keep us going. The goal is to see sunrise at 4am at the tip of Scotland. The journey is just under 1,000 miles which is the same distance as riding from London to Barcelona... We've all lost people to cancer over the years, but the work of cancer research uk is making a huge difference to outcomes. I'll be doing this ride in memory of those no longer with us, but also in celebration of the brilliant work cancer research continues to do extending quality of life and recovery for those diagnosed. So, get yourselves checked out routinely, don't put off getting something looked at if you're worried about it, and get a second opinion if you're not happy. But, while you're on hold with the receptionist at the local GP, press the donate button and throw us a few quid. Every pound, euro, or dollar counts, there's nearly 40 of us doing it this year and we're hoping to raise £100,000 between us! So, what will I be riding 1,000 miles in a day on? A friend parked his 1999 cbr600f up in the garage with a fuel leak in 2015. 11 years later corrosion has taken hold of this piece of peak 90's brilliance. The fuel system is full of sludge and rust, all the metalwork is furry or rusty, and it's got over 60,000 miles on it. However, it was £300, and it's got a centre stand. Stay tuned, and click the donate button to help encourage me while I try to resurrect this bike, and get myself fit enough to survive the ordeal!
