My Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. Cancer is the worst! I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It comes with no control and relentlessly destroys the person you love in front of your eyes. What scared me the most was how in these modern times, how uncertain the Doctors were about diagnosing the cancer and what started off as a "mini stroke" 2 months after my Wedding Reception took my beautiful Mum's life 8 weeks later. My Mum was my light, my strength and my heart. She always kept me on the straight and narrow and put everyones wants and needs in front of her own. She was the matriarch of our family and loved dearly by anyone lucky enough to meet her. I made a promise to Mum in her last weeks that I would run a marathon for her. Even then she managed to giggle. For anyone who knows me I'm more of a "burger and a pint" than "oh lets go for a run" kind of guy! When one of Mums closest friends Rachel (who has raised over £120,000 for Cancer Research!!) mentioned that London 2021 could be an option, I knew it was game time. Along with my brother Morgan and Rachel, we have received confirmed placement for the London Marathon 2021, through Cancer Research UK. Training has began and it's a lot harder than I thought, but nothing is worse than watching what cancer did to my Mum. Taking her live far too prematurely at the age of 55. Knowing she will never see our children or watch my younger brother get married motivates me! I have never been one to ask for anything but now is the time to dig deep and if you can spare any kind of donation I will be forever grateful. Anything we can do to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK in these uncertain times is positive. My run is dedicated to everyone who has been touched by Cancer because I believe together we can beat the curse of cancer! Thank you Jake #givingcancerthemiddlefinger
