Jo, Sonny and I have decided to walk the Shine Night Marathon to raise money towards cancer research UK. We are doing the full walking marathon of 26.2 miles on 22nd September 2018 at 9.20pm around London. It’s our first marathon and will certainly be in pain crossing the finish line but all for a great cause! Unfortunately most people know somebody fighting a battle against cancer, it is heartbreaking for the individual diasgnosed as well as those around them, we know this from having to deal with it first hand. Back in 2015, my Mum was diagnosed with kidney cancer, luckily the tumour was contained within one kidney and could be removed, giving her the all clear. She received amazing care from the staff at Epsom hospital, where she had the operation. This year has been extremely tough, finding out my lovely Nan has been diagnosed with lung cancer. She is undergoing chemotherapy at the moment and has been so brave and inspirational even when suffering so badly. Just a few weeks after hearing the terrible news about my Nan, we received more awful news from my wonderful auntie Tina, who had just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She has spent the past few weeks in hospital and had to deal with so many set backs before starting chemo, however she has been extremely brave and amazing regardless! Both are receiving treatment at the Royal Marsden, where they have been given the most incredible care, we are lucky to have it so close to home.
