My Story
my life was turned upside down in a way i never imagined in Sep 2011 my brother Brandon was diagnosed with stage four cancer ( rhabdomysarcoma) it was in his chest, diaphragm, lung,Iiver, spine and lymph nodes. He started on an intensive 9 course cycle of chemo in the hope to shrink his tumours, the big tumours shrunk to a size where it was possible to operate. He had a 10 and 1/2 hour op at Leeds lgi where they shaved his liver down, removed his diaphragm ( he had a prosthetic one fitted) they collapsed his lung to get to the tumours there( they removed part of his lung ), they removed the one on his spine, but when they looked further he had tumours growing near his heart which was impossible to remove radio was are only option to kill these off. Brandon had 6 weeks of high dose radio followed by another 5 months of chemo, scans showed the cancer never went away so they gave him more chemo to try and slow the growths down, but scans showed tumours was still growing, they spread back into his liver, his good lung( this was his only lung what was working ) because treatment wasnt working it was decided to be stopped and he was put in palliative care, one of the hardest days of my life knowing my brother wasn't going to get well. My brother lived his short life as full as he could, on days he wasn't able to hardly do anything he still always had an amazing smile on his face , he fought his battle for 2 1/2 years with strength and courage I could only admire for such a young age ( he was only 8 when diagnosed) he didn't allow the disease to control what he could do, not all super heroes come with capes and shields my brother was my real life super hero, he was my true inspiration, my reason to carry on for he loved life. He Sadly lost his battle at home when he was just 11 but he fought it at every step of the way. I love u Brandon and miss u more than any words could ever express, till we meet again, love u forever xxxxxxx
