My Story

Thank you for visiting Bob's Donate in Memory page. Bob was an amazingly creative person with boundless energy and enthusiasm for art. A kind and generous person who enriched so many lives with his wisdom and creative spirit. He will be greatly missed. We all felt he would go on forever. A BRIEF HISTORY Bob studied from the age of 14 at Sutton School of Art, gaining the National Diploma in Design (NDD) in illustration in 1952. Following two year's National Service in the RAF, he set up his own freelance design studio and worked as an exhibition designer for the next forty years. After retirement, he decided to devote his time to his art and worked prolifically for the next 25 years. He became a member of the Pastel Society in 2001, then a council member and was elected as Vice President from 2008-2011. Bob worked in a wide variety of mediums: oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolour and print. He liked to work large, whether on canvas or paper. He was inspired by the landscape and human form but also loved to create purely abstract work where the emphasis was on composition, form, colour and texture. When working in pastel he liked to prepare a surface with pumice powder or other textured material and often underpaint in acrylic to start the picture off. Bob worked fast and liked to continue with a single painting until it is was finished although he usually worked on a particular theme and produce several related pieces. ........................................................................................................
