More research to be done to help with the early detection of lung cancer in the hope of saving lives

In memory of

Desmond Charles Watson

10th Jul 1942 - 27th Feb 2017

My Story

Our dear Dad lead an active life up until he became unwell and was admitted to hospital in December 2016 where he was eventually diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. Our Dad sadly never gained the strength to be given the chance of treatment to prolong his life. Losing a parent to cancer is heartbreaking, losing both parents within six months to cancer is unthinkable. We would like to believe that there is a cure for all cancers in the future to ensure no family have to go through the numbness and the pain we are currently experiencing. We also hope that there is a way of detecting this silent killer earlier giving patients more of a chance of survival. Our Dad was a firm believer of 'waste not want not' and with this knowledge, and in his honour we would like to request for donations to be paid directly to Cancer Research UK instead of flowers at his funeral service. We have requested for all donations to go specifically into Lung Cancer research. Thank you for taking the time to visit our page, we know our Dad had friends far and wide, he was extra special and will be sorely missed by all that knew him. Cherish the memories, he will always be in our thoughts and in our hearts. Best wishes from Karen, Lorraine and Belinda

CAUSE

Lung cancer

Each year more than 43,500 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the UK. We urgently need to drive progress so that more people survive their disease. Cancer Research UK is at the forefront in lung cancer research and is funding various projects to tackle the disease head on. This includes the TRACERx study, Cancer Research UK’s largest investment into lung cancer to date. This study has already transformed our understanding of how lung cancer evolves and is continuing to shed light on how to prevent, detect and treat the disease.
