Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m raising money right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! My Dad, Bob Maughan, lost his battle with Mesothelioma in 2016 and my Mam, Janet suffered with Myeloma until her untimely death in 2018. I also have other family and close friends who themselves are battling cancer right now so my attempt to complete the Great North Run some 30 years since the last time I took part is my small way of showing support and raising money for such a great cause. Then along came Covid19 and the world changed in so many ways...lock down...self isolation...one way systems for shopping....face masks and meeting friends and family via Zoom! But most of all the Great North Run in 2020 has been postponed until 2021....and the training was going so well! Not to be put off, the clever people at the GNR team came up with the idea of the Great North Run Solo 2020 Challenge.....simply complete 40 runs of any distance between the end of June and the 13th September.....one run for every year of the Great North Run. So the challenge is on....40 runs and the opportunity to still raise money for Cancer Research UK. Now more than ever, with so many charity events being cancelled, charity's such as Cancer Research UK need our help and support if they are to continue to fight cancer. Covid19 will soon be a distant memory and we will all resume our lives in whatever form it takes but Cancer will still be there and a cure will need to be found.
