Let's cure cancer sooner

My Story

Longest Day Up is a motorbike challenge to travel from Lands End to John O'Groats on the longest day of the year between sunrise and sunset. Bikes must have been bought for no more than £300 & the route excludes any motorways. I did this the other way round (John O'Groats to Lands End) 6 years ago and made it just inside 24 hours, cold, wet, cramped, sore and semi-delirious with tiredeness, but none of that compares to the suffering caused by cancer. So.... I'm doing it again, this time hoping to get the bike running on all cylinders so I don't have to slip the clutch & end up with a stretched chain dragging on the floor! This last year of the pandemic has left CRUK with less donations than in most years, so please donate as generously as you feel you can - every penny helps & will keep me going through the dark, cold hours (June isn't as warm as you might think at 3am!) Thankyou all, Ian 25/3 - less than 3 months to go... having had the carburettors out (again) and finding nothing wrong or blocked in them, I've wrestled them back in place, but it still only runs on 3 cylinders at idle. Can't get to the pilot screw, so took out cooling pipes & giving carb #2 a bit more fuel seems to have helped a bit (although steam spewing out of the engine discouraged me from messing about too much more. let it cool down and have another look at the weekend!) 4th June - 2 weeks today we're setting off to Land's End ready to head North to John O'Groats. Finally think the bike may now be capable of doing the run - it made it 40 miles to Sherburn last night and 60 miles round and about York today. - hoping to get a couple of hundred miles in over the weekend to see if it (& I ) hold up to a bit of distance. Thanks so much to everyone who's donated, our team total is now over £30,000 - amazing!!!
