Ian Burns

My Story

Ian Burns died on the 16th of November 2020, peacefully at home surrounded by his family following a long battle with cancer. Ian was a retired Group Commander having served 34 years as a uniformed officer of Strathclyde Fire Brigade, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). He retired as a Group Commander in 2017 from South Lanarkshire LSO Area. Following his retirement he re-joined SFRS as a Civil Contingencies Officer covering Lanarkshire. Ian leaves a wife (Irene) and two sons (David and Andrew) and his beloved dog Zookie.

CAUSE

Developing better treatments

From testing new therapies to finding better ways of using existing therapies, our clinical trials have helped improve cancer treatment. But these treatments don’t work for everyone and can have short- and long-term side effects. With your support, we can find kinder, more effective treatments so that people can live longer, better lives.
