In memory of

Grandad Martin

My Story

I am running in memory of my grandad who sadly passed away on Sunday 10th April. Around 4 and a half years ago, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and at one point we nearly lost him but in time he had an operation to remove one third of his lung which was successful and we started to see a slow recovery. He was given the clear for a while until in the last 18 months/2years, we learnt that his cancer had returned and this time it was incurable but he went forward and began treatment again. This time you could see how much harder it was for him but we still got to make some wonderful memories and went away to the coast with him last year ❤️. We hit January 2022 and things started to decline, he was admitted to hospital at the end of March and he hated it, did nothing but complain but that was all in his true nature and spirit, when he returned home- it was not long before he was bed bound. It was very difficult to see. Before he could no longer speak, we put a final bet on the horses for him. I visited the 10th April to be told, my grandad only had hours to live. It broke me and I spent most the day with him. When he passed my nan and mum were with him, two of the most important ladies in his life and it was so peaceful. I miss my grandad but know that he is going to be proud of me for doing this but laughing at me at the same time. Cancer can be fought but unfortunately you cannot always win the battle. Grandad I run for you! * I also run for my Grandpa who has asbestos cancer in his lung lining and for my friends mum who was diagnosed with breast cancer 💕
