I'm supporting my friends doing the 5K Race for Life to raise money to beat cancer sooner
Cancer is happening right now. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. I continue to live and battle with Multiple Myeloma, a complex and very individual blood cancer, on a daily basis. Having been diagnosed almost 8 years ago I am fortunate to have experienced and continue to benefit from rapidly developing treatments, only made possible through innovative research, the availability of clinical trials and raised awareness through increasing information and knowledge. However, Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding and much more still needs to be done towards achieving the ultimate aim of finding a cure for cancer. In particular, in ensuring that diagnosing cancer early remains at the top of the agenda, so that research discoveries are fully incorporated into healthcare policies and clinical practice. Sadly, I very recently lost a dear friend to Pancreatic cancer, one of the more aggressive types of cancer. And so this year, I am especially raising money in memory of Carol. Unfortunately, I will not be able to physically take part in this years Race for Life. However I will be there on the day, fully supporting my friends who are doing the 5k walk to raise money and save lives. Without the ongoing support of friends, family, work colleagues and my care team I would not have been able to celebrate the special milestones, big and small, through my own ‘cancer’ journey. I am truly blessed and owe a debt of gratitude to many, which is why it is so important for me to support ‘Hersha’s Heroes’. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work.
