My Story
Cancer touches us all in one way or another... .2 days before Christmas 2023 my sister was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer - Waldenstroms Microglobulanaemia. She, along with all of her family, had no idea. She was quickly admitted to hospital where she spent nearly a week, including Christmas Day, and in that time underwent two plasma exchange procedures and the first of seven targeted chemotherapy sessions. Thankfully she seems to be responding well to the treatment she is receiving and by the time we run in Herne Bay on 30 June, she will have completed the full 7-session cycle of chemotherapy. But for the excellent research that Cancer Research UK does, her rare condition or the specific, targeted therapy she has received may not have been identified. I, my husband and 2 of my sons are taking part in this event as a 'Thank You' to Cancer Research UK and to the Kent & Canterbury NHS Trust for their outstanding and unfailing work. Please do what you can to support us and them. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work.
