Cancer is happening right now, and just now it’s happening to me. Nearly a year ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer which was busy making itself at home in my lymph glands too. After a year of surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and vast amounts of clever drugs my chances of longer term survival are much better than they would have been a few years ago. This is due to advances in treatment brought about by research. But too many people are still dying, and too many families are still being ripped apart by this wretched disease. Nearly 12000 women (and a fair number of men too) die each year from breast cancer alone. Other forms of cancer have even higher mortality.
