Heather's Race for Life

I am taking part in the Race For Life 5k, with a crazy but fabulous bunch of friends from my SlimmingWorld group. Our team come in all shapes and sizes, and different abilities; but all share friendship and are supportive of each other. Not many of the team are runners so we will be walking the course. I, myself am built for comfort not for speed; so walking is the way to go!! The big C struck my family in recent years, and am lucky enough to say that the family member is now in remission. I have other family members who haven’t been so lucky. I want to do this race, not only for loved ones lost; but for anyone out there who is currently fighting this terrible disease, who has fought and won; and to help and assist with finding a cure. I wrote a poem when our family was given this terrible news that I would like to share. The Big C You destroy each person you touch Not one life can ever be the same You're known to many as 'the big C' No one can bear to say your name It's not just the person you're involved with But their friends and family too You really don't know the pain you cause But the heartache you bring too You don't discriminate on gender Young or old; black or white You need to learn to back down When your victim begins to fight You don't care what part you're affecting Be it liver, lungs, or bones The most selfish of all possible things Each time more of the unknown You've brought this to my family What did we do wrong Except love and care for one another We'll show you we can be strong You are such a horrible disease You don't deserve any glory One day we'll find a cure for you And there will be many more winning stories 🖕🏻 If you would like to support me and the team on our upcoming race, please use the link provided.
