My Story

In 2011, my step mum, Netty, sadly passed away from cancer. Netty brought my 3 youngest siblings into my life and I’ve been lucky to have the opportunity she didn’t of watching them grown into incredible young adults who she would be overwhelmingly proud of. Netty loved life, she was a talented kayaker even appearing on the cover of a canoe magazine once, but being a mother was undoubtedly what she would say was her greatest achievement. In the years following her death, Race for Life became a family event for us, a joyful moment to celebrate her and raise money to help prevent other families losing their loved ones. Life got in the way and it’s been a few years since any of us have done Race for Life and this year feels like the right time to return, both personally and as the statistics have worsened with now 1 in 2 people being diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
