Hannah's Race for Life

On Sunday the 7th of July, I will be taking part in the Maidstone 5K Pretty Muddy Race for Life. I could have picked the normal 5K run but I felt compelled to do something a bit more challenging and out my comfort zone so the Pretty Muddy race is the one for me. I am taking part in memory of my wonderful Nan who passed away earlier this year. Her health had been slowly deteriorating for several months however it was around March when it really took a turn for the worse. After many trips to the hospital as she was in excruciating pain, she was diagnosed secondary bone cancer since beating breast cancer 11 years before. She battled through 3 different treatments for the breast cancer and being the strong person she was, didn’t let cancer win. In regards to the secondary bone cancer, the hospital decided that the best way forward was pain management as her body was so weak she wouldn't make it through any sort of cancer treatment like chemotherapy. She was on oramorph and morphine patches as strong as possible but the pain was still unbearable. I then spent every day with my Nan and watched her body slowly shut down which was hard for me but I knew I wouldn't get that time back. My Nan then passed away on the 17th of April in her own home very peacefully, as cancer just took over her body. She was so precious to all of us, she had a heart of gold and is dearly missed every day. So this is for you Nan, I hope I make you proud. X
