Hannah's Race for my Dad

I'm taking part to support the battles being fought by so many people, sadly including my incredible dad.

My Story

Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 10k to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now. Sadly its happening right now for my family. You never imagine becoming one of those statistics and try not to think about the fact that 1 in 2 means that it will probably affect a number of people in your own family. Our bubble burst when my dad was recently diagnosed with an aggressive tumour on his prostate. We never saw it coming, and even to this day he would be none the wiser if he hadn't have taken it upon himself to request a psa check from his gp. Sadly this was on the radar because my uncle has also been suffering from prostate cancer for the last few years. For us this means that the cancer is treatable as it was caught before it had spread, and we are really hopeful that with a few years of treatment we will (in my dad's words) "beat the b****d!" I am hoping that as well as raising funds, I can raise some awareness, even if it is just that all of you lovely Facebook friends nag your dads to get their psa checked! It could be a lifesaver like for my dad. Most of you who know me also know my dad so it won't surprise you at all to know that he has been unbelievably positive and determined from the outset. He is, as always making rubbish jokes, he's continuing to run and stay fit to give himself every chance of fighting this awful disease. We are all so proud of him, he's already raised an amazing amount of money for prostate cancer UK and will continue to do so. I feel like if he's got to face this battle for the next few years, the least I can do is drag myself around 10k in the park to support him and so many others suffering. I know some of you have already contributed through other fundraisers so I don't expect you to sponsor me too, but for those of you who haven't, please give whatever you can so I'm not putting myself through it for nothing!!
