My Story

I'm taking part in Race for Life as back in Feb 2018, my family and I were ripped apart by the very sudden and unexpected loss of my Father to Lymphoma. This was diagnosed less then 24 hours before he went to his happy place. My dad was a very proud, kind & generous family man that would go out of his way to make sure everyone was alright and enjoyed seeing others happy. After having an accident at work & had been off work for some time due to damage to tendons in his elbow, he developed pneumonia which unfortunately he didn’t respond to the antibiotics & made him ill very quickly. Whilst he never complained, he was admitted to hospital where it was discovered the reason for the sudden detrition was that he was suffering from lymphoma. It makes his tragic death that much harder to bear, given that the illness was undetected for so long & he deteriorated so quickly. The staff at the Intensive Care Unit worked so hard to save him. Whilst the experience was completely surreal & still so very raw, the family are very appreciative of what the medical staff did for him. This is a day that I will never forget, as even the night before he passed he was rolling his eyes at my mum and me for calling him poppet. If any of the money I can raise doing the 5K could go to help another family keep the loved ones with them - I will do what it takes. I don't think anyone should have to lose a life to Cancer. I'm sure he'll be laughing at me as I do/attempt it.
