My Story
Hello Friends! After 6 years of deliberating I've finally found the courage to sign myself up for a HALF MARATHON in London this coming October on the day she died to mark the 7th anniversary!! I will be running for CANCER RESEARCH UK and here is my story... On October 13th 2012 my mother Helena Hughes lost her battle with cancer after 18 months of fighting, this is her story; At the beginning of May 2011, my mum was rushed into A&E to be diagnosed with aggressive and advanced bowel cancer. She was told that the cancer was incurable and was only able to receive palliative care due to the cancer being so aggressive. During the months after, the cancer spread to her colon, lungs and liver even whilst receiving regular chemotherapy sessions causing the loss of her hair and weakening her body. But she kept optimistic taking everyday as it came and never showing me the full extent of her courage considering the pain she was being put through. 18 months on, her final breaths were taken within a in-patient room at St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich. But her message and strength remain within me. Throughout the whole experience she kept her smile, she carried on with her life and she ALWAYS thought of others before herself. So today I am taking a step to help future sufferers, honour those lost and make my mum proud. I would appreciate any DONATIONS TO MY GIVING PAGE shared in this link of whatever you are able to give as this is such a worthy cause with 1 in 2 people receiving a diagnosis in their lifetime, this is for OUR FUTURE! My goal is £1000, but I intend on smashing this and reaching as high as I can. Thank you for your time, lets get training!xx
