Obesity is the leading cause of cancer after smoking. I've spent the majority of my life overweight until last year when I decided that vegetables weren't the devil and that the STAGS cross country run couldn't scar me forever and I made some changes. So far I've lost 40kg, I feel healthier than I ever have and exercise has been a part of that. I was motivated, in part, by the undeniable realisation that cancer doesn't discriminate. Cancer wouldn't wait for me to photograph the Isle of Skye, adopt a greyhound or finally finish War and Peace; I was putting myself at risk.
1 in 2 people will deal with cancer in their lifetime, in doing this run I can only hope to raise a bit of money to fund research that will lower this number.
I've been inspired by some incredible women lately, strong in ways I can only hope to one day be. This run is for them more than anyone.
