Gurpreet's Race for Life

Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives. We all know someone who has had cancer or we know of someone suffering from cancer at this very moment. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. It's a scary process for the person themselves and their family, therefore I want to be able to raise money in order to make a difference to these people's lives through Cancer Research UK's astonishing work. In my case, I was exposed to the devastating effects cancer can have on a family from a relatively young age. My eldest cousin was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1995, at at the age of 4, she sadly left us on November 3rd 1998, aged 7. I sadly didn't have the chance to meet her, as she passed the year before I was born. However, I have heard so many stories from family members about how she was always so full of life, happiness, strength and was always smiling. Through pictures I have seen of her, she was the most beautiful little girl in the world. Everyone has always talked about how amazing she was, how bright she was and how much love she had to give. Through all the memories shared about my Jyoti Penji, I really feel as if I know her, and how much I wish that I had the opportunity to meet her. My family once again dealt with a loss to cancer in 2015. Another strong, loving, determined, important stem in our family left us. Someone who always guided us and gave us advice on how to deal with life and in any particular situation to always stay strong and to remember who you are. He always gave each and every one of us irreplaceable life lessons that we will cherish forever. Babaji was, and always will be a core pillar of our family and will forever remain in our hearts. We have seen further battles with cancer over the last few year, which with the blessings of God and the great medical treatment provided, have resulted in the successful defeat of cancer. We hope that cancer continues to be beaten down and never allowed to rise. This race for life is for the loved ones we have unfortunately lost to the battle.
