My Story
Cancer now affects 1 in 2 people and firefighters are 3 times more likely to develop this disease than the general population. That in itself would be a good enough reason for Green Watch Hemel Hempstead to raise awareness and funds, but this year cancer has become even more personal. The partner of one of our watch members has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. As firefighters we are fixers by nature and spend our lives helping other people in their most difficult moments, although we can't fix this we can raise money to help those amazing people who can. We have chosen to take part in a 5km race for life Watford on 18th September which should be pretty easy for a fit bunch of firefighters right!? We have decided to make it a bigger challenge by adding in full fire kit, boots, helmets and 17kg of breathing apparatus. Thats us doing our bit, all we need now is for you to do yours and help us fundraise, like and share our page and if you really fancy it come and cheer us on during the race!
