My Story
Thank you for visiting my Fundraising Page. The money I raise will help fund life-saving research and to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. I first came across cancer at a very young age when my grandmother passed away in 2001 due to her decades long battle with non hodgkin's lymphoma. Growing up I never really understood the medical avenue associated with cancer, but like everyone else I knew it is terrible and life threatening. I also witnessed first hand at a very young age the impacts of chemotherapy. Seeing my grandmother post chemo/ bone marrow transplants has stayed with me to this day and I really wish that no one experiences that. I know that its not a decease that will just go away from this planet, but I would love to do the little I can to support research. The reason why I've picked Colon Cancer is because for a second time in my life cancer made an appearance in a loved one. My aunt, who I am very close too, her family has been my only family in Europe ever since I moved to England in 2014. She was recently diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Seeing her fight with the decease and chemotherapy has motivated me to also get out of my own comfort zone to do my part (albeit very little in the grand scheme of things) and run the Amsterdam marathon this year in October. Personally, I am in the worst shape of my life, I think I last ran a mile in 2020. Post Covid I really just stopped looking after my physical fitness. So more so for me with around 11 weeks to go, it will be a monumental effort to get into shape to the run longest distance I ever have run. It will also be my first marathon. But I believe, I derive strength from my aunt's resolve and I hope that she too would garner strength from me embarking on this monumental effort. Lastly, I know I've been ambitious with the target, but regardless, every little will go a long way. I appreciate you taking time out to read through this today and really appreciate your donation as well. Love, Gohar
