My Story
I chose to take on the challenge of completing 14 cold-water dips in February because cancer has affected my life in deeply personal ways, both in the past and the present. When I was younger, my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. He fought incredibly hard, but sadly, he passed away. Despite everything he was going through, my memories of him are filled with love, patience, and the way he always put others before himself. Me and my cousin loved Hello Kitty, and he knew that. He would sit and draw Hello Kitty characters for us, taking the time to make something just to see us smile. Those drawings meant so much more than pictures — they showed the kind of person he was: gentle, thoughtful, and full of love, even while he was unwell. More recently, cancer has once again hit close to home. Just before Christmas, my auntie was diagnosed, and the news devastated our family. She is someone who truly lights up a room. Her smile radiates warmth, and her laughter is contagious. Even in the face of such difficult news, she continues to show strength and positivity, and I want her to know how proud I am of her. I am doing this challenge to support her and to make sure she knows she is never facing this alone. Cancer affects so many people across the UK and around the world — patients, families, and friends. By taking on this challenge, I hope to play a small part in supporting cancer research, so that more families can have more time together and more moments that matter. Every cold-water dip I take is for those we have lost, those who are still fighting, and those who support them every single day.
