My Story
I've finally decided to put other people's money where my mouth is and make myself miserable over an extended period of training in memory of two of my grandparents. Some of you might know that I lost two grandparents in the space of a few weeks in June 2019. Grandad passed away after a long decline cause by dementia, having beaten prostate cancer when he was younger. Andrew passed on my birthday a few weeks later. After going 15 rounds with prostate cancer, a facial cancer came in at the last round like the shitter that cancer is. Both of them were very brave, were loved by many and loved and supported many others in turn. Both of them supported a huge number of charitable causes over their lives, through their own support and Andrew through his work with the Dinwoodie Trust. I'll be running the Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday 17th May in their memory, and all donations received will be going towards Cancer Research UK. I work closely with cancer researchers on a day to day basis in my job, so I know how much work goes in to every new discovery and step on that path, how much it costs and how much sacrifice goes in to it. Cancer had a big impact on both Grandad and Andrew's lives, and I'm hoping this will do something to honour their memories. Any support you can give, even if it's just a quid, would be hugely appreciated. Thanks, George
