Normally we run experiments. This October, Mok lab members are running as many as possible 5km runs to raise money for cancer research. Same teamwork, different kind of challenge.

My Story

We’re a research group at the University of East Anglia studying how cells form blood and blood vessels during early development. Our team includes researchers and students working together to understand the fundamental biology that underpins health and disease. This October, the Mok Lab (Geoff, Lydia, Andreas, Olivia, James, Lauren, Kayleigh) is taking on as many as possible 5km runs for Stand Up To Cancer to help raise money for life-saving cancer research. We spend our working lives in the lab trying to understand how cells develop, how they make decisions and what happens when those processes go wrong. Research takes time, persistence and a lot of teamwork - and we thought we’d apply some of that same spirit to a slightly different challenge. Cancer affects almost everyone in some way, whether through family, friends, colleagues or our wider community. As scientists, we also know just how important sustained investment in research is for turning discoveries in the laboratory into better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat disease. Stand Up To Cancer raises money to accelerate cancer research and help bring new treatments to patients faster. That is something we are very proud to support. So, during October, we’ll be swapping pipettes, microscopes and computers for running shoes and taking on as many as possible 5km runs.

Stand Up to Cancer: LIFE-SAVING RESEARCH

100% of the money you raise goes towards speeding up life-saving research. Every day, scientists and researchers work tirelessly to beat cancer. But lab researchers will not get us there alone. Every penny raised helps speed up breakthroughs in the lab, transforming them into new tests and treatments for patients who need them. The research you fund will help us see 3 in 4 people in the UK survive their cancer by 2034.
