My Story
In 2019 my family's world was turned upside down. The dreaded 'C word' was uttered and the future became murky and scary. Losing a loved one is hard at the best of times but to lose someone to a terrible disease like cancer can even be worse. It's unfair, cruel, and doesn't care how old you are or what you have done in your life. My mum was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in July 2019. She has fought with all her strength, bravery, and determination to fight it. Earlier this year mum became very poorly and her chemotherapy had to stop altogether. Our family is, of course, devastated by this, to watch mum lose her fight is heartbreaking and infuriating. Every day I feel helpless, I feel helpless I can't take my mum's pain away or make this terrible disease disappear so mum can continue to be healthy and happy. I can't make it all better but I can do something. I can fight for research. I can fight for others. I can fight and make my mum proud, just as she is making me proud every day by carrying on. My mum is an absolute warrior and I want to be just like her. So, to start, I am going to be walking 10,000 steps every single day in March - the equivalent of nearly 5 miles - to raise money for Cancer Research UK. My partner, Mark, will be joining me on my journey and hopefully, we can make a difference. I will do anything to help others, to make sure others don't go through the same thing, and to one day be able to truly say fuck you cancer. We will be documenting our journey on social media and be walking whatever the weather. Let's do this.
