In October 2017 I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. I had a 3cm tumour in my right breast. I don’t really remember much from that initial appointment but I will never forget the roller coster journey we went on as a family. I underwent 6 months of chemotherapy. Followed by a lumpectomy in April 2018 then further surgery in May as my biopsy showed the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes. I completed my treatment with 35 sessions of radiotherapy. I now have to take Tamoxifen for the next 10 years (1 down - 9 to go!) to decrease the chance of any further cancerous tumours. Cancer is a shadow that hangs over me and my family daily. Every lump or illness sends fear through us all. The lingering side effects are cruel and although I am now cancer free - I will never be the same person I was. I walk because I am a survivor, I walk because I am a fighter and I walk in the hope that no other family will go through what mine did. I walk for me and in support of my friend V and all other sufferers, survivors and there families xxx
CAUSE
Breast cancer
With almost 140 women diagnosed every day, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. And, although rarer, around 350 men are also diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The good news is more than two-thirds of women now survive 20 years or more. Help Cancer Research UK find new ways to diagnose and treat the disease.
