My Story

Thank you for visiting my Cancer Research UK Cycle 200 page. This September, before the end of the month, I will complete 200 miles on my bike for Cancer Research UK along with a team, some have chosen the 300 miles. From Emma’s husband: I will be pedalling harder than ever because I want to raise money for life-saving research to help my wife and the many others suffering from cancer. I’m joining forces with Emma’s husband, and I’ve managed to pick up a few recruits along the way. I feel this is the best way I can support Emma on her journey. Back in April Emma found a lump in her breast. She wasn't able to see her GP straight away but a few weeks later she was allowed to be examined and was referred to the Breast Unit. Luckily this process happened swiftly but unfortunately, the worst outcome happened. She was diagnosed with the more rare Triple Negative breast cancer which requires an aggressive treatment regime of 21 weeks of chemo, surgery and then radiotherapy. As you can imagine, this has made our family's life extra difficult at this time and the fear of losing the woman i love to this horrible illness, which has already taken a lot of members of my family already is heartbreaking. In June, Cancer Research UK announced that because of COVID-19 and the devastating impact it’s had on their income, they could be forced to cut £150 million per year from our research funding. These cuts would undoubtedly set back progress for cancer patients everywhere. To put the figure in context, £150 million is what Cancer Research UK would spend on clinical trials over the next 10 years. £150 million is approximately 35% of their total research spend last year. Every penny makes a huge difference to vital cancer research so please show your support with a donation to my page.
