Mark & Dad
The time has come again for us to take to our feet and walk for cancer research. We have done this every year since 2007 which is when Mark lost his battle with cancer at only 42 years of age. He had initially fought back from a very aggressive skin cancer in 2003 but sadly in September 2006 we were told he was terminally ill with bowel cancer. As you can imagine it turned our lives upside down. We vowed to make what precious time he had left memorable so that we could hold on to the enjoyable memories. Things were planned for the next 12 months after being told he had approx 18 months left on this planet, sadly he lasted 3 but we made the most of those 3 months and have photographs to treasure of his last Christmas with the children and family. He finally gave up 5th Feb 2007. Dad was diagnosed in 2013 and suffered immensely for around 3 months. I traveled weekly back to Birmingham to visit him at his hospital bedside and savour those times now knowing I was able to be there as often as I was. He lost his battle 1 week before his 75th birthday, he tried so bravely to hold on so we could celebrate his 75th but it wasn't to be. He passed away Sept 2013. Cancer has hit us hard and we have lost 2 very important people in our lives so both myself and Nikki every year now since 2007 have done a walk of some type to support cancer research. This year we have decided to take part in an event that we have not done yet and we are really excited to be taking part. Please donate what you can, doesn't matter how small, it all helps!! Bowel cancer
Over the past 40 years there's been dramatic progress in tackling bowel cancer and half of people diagnosed will now survive for at least 10 years. But with bowel cancer still claiming around 43 lives each day, more research still needs to be done. Help Cancer Research UK find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease.
